BROCKTON, Mass. ---- The Massasoit Community College men's soccer team saw both sides of the coin to start the 2015 campaign on the road in New Jersey. The Warriors dominated Essex County in the season opener, with a 10-0 victory on Saturday, before falling on Sunday to No. 19 Mercer County, 6-0.
"We really had some nice touches up top and played well against Essex in the opener," head coach Rui Estrela said. "We were able to get everyone in the game and were able to score early and often and our defense was able to keep the shutout. It was a good way to start the season.
"However, in Sunday's game (against Mercer) we just came out flat and could never recover from it. It was an entire team let down and we played with no energy. Mercer was very prepared and played at a high tempo that we were not ready for. They truly manhandled us the entire game in all aspects of the game."
Massasoit 10, Essex County 0
A trio of Warriors scored multiple goals, including a hat trick from Elvis Andrade (Brockton/Penn Foster HS) as Massasoit rolled 10-0 in the opening match of the 2015 season.
Andrew Revanales (Trinidad/Sharon HS) started the scoring spree by netting the first two goals for Massasoit just 12 minutes into the contest. Kessy Alves (Brockton/Southeastern Voc) also footed two goals in the opening stanza, while Ethan Arruda (Somerset/Somerset HS) and Jose Erazo (Hyannis/Barnstable HS) each scored to give the Warriors a commanding 6-0 lead at intermission.
In the second half, Andrade struck the back of the net on three occasions, while Miguel Pavao (Fall River/Durfee HS) joined the attack with his first career goal.
Wilson Fernandes (Pawtucket, R.I./Shea HS) posted a clean sheet in his first career match in goal. The keeper posted three saves in the victory.
#19 Mercer County 6, Massasoit 0
Nationally ranked Mercer County scored four first-half goals, to put the match out of reach early as the Warriors fell, 6-0.
Guilherme Franca netted two goals in the opening stanza for the Vikings as the Warriors were not able to muster up much against the No. 19 team in the nation. Massasoit finished with 11 total shots, five coming on goal. Andrew Revanales topped the team with three shots in the loss.

Plenty Of New Faces: Massasoit had 14 new student-athletes see action on the field in the opening weekend.
No Rust For Revanales: After five years away from playing at Massasoit, sophomore Andrew Revanales scored the first two goals of the 2015 season for the Warriors. Saturday's game was the first time Revanales had played for Massasoit since the 2010 campaign.
Two Sides Of Scoring Pendulum: In the season opener, Massasoit dominated in a 10-0 win over Essex County. It marked the first time that the Warriors scored double digit goals since defeating MassBay, 11-0, on Sept. 9, 2013. On the flip side, the six goals allowed to Mercer County on Sunday, marked the most surrendered since falling 8-2 to Bryant & Stratton on Oct. 5, 2013.
Hat Trick For The King: Elvis Andrade made a splash in his first game with the Warriors. The freshman with the iconic first name netted a hat trick, with all three goals coming in the second half of the season opener against Essex County.
