Five Men's Soccer Players Named All-Region XXI

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- A total of five Warriors were honored as All-New England Region XXI players for their success on the field for the Massasoit CC men's soccer team announced by the league on Wednesday.

Four of the student-athletes -- Joao Cardoso (Brockton), Rockfeller Fixe (Haiti), Joel Lobo (Brockton) and Ruben Varela (Brockton) -- earned the nod on the 11-player member all-region first-team.

Joining the quartet with an honor was Edmar "Pepe" Vieira (Brockton), who was named to the honorable mention squad by the league voters.

Massasoit finished the season 11-5-3, falling in the New England District Semifinals this past weekend to ASA College in penalty kicks.

Joao Cardoso, Forward
• Finished with seven goals and four assists on the season for 18 total points.
• His seven goals ranked tied for third in Region XXI amongst Division I teams.
• Scored a goal and dished out an assist against Springfield Tech (9/28) and vs. Roxbury CC (10/22).

Rockfeller Fixe, Defense
• Anchored the Warriors defense at sweeper as the team allowed just 1.37 goals per game.
• Started 17 of 19 games and appeared in every match on the season.
• Buried a penalty kick shot in the loss to ASA College (11/9).

Joel Lobo, Forward
• Led Region XXI in goals (15) and points (35) and recorded five assists.
• Produced four multi-goal performances on the season.
• Collected four goals and an assist in a win vs. CCRI (10/9).
• Netted at least one goal in the last five games.
• Scored both goals in a 2-1 victory vs. Dean College in the Region XXI Finals.

Ruben Varela, Midfield
• Netted eight goals and distributed six assists, both ranking second in Region XXI.
• Scored a goal in four straight matches towards the end of the season.
• Finished with a goal and assist in a 4-3 win at Dean College (10/16).

Edmar Vieira, Midfield
• Manned the center of the midfield and directed the Warrior offense.
• Tied for fourth in Region XXI with five assists.
• Recorded four goals, three coming in the first five matches of the season.
• Recorded an assist in the 2-1 victory vs. Dean College (10/16) in the Region XXI finals.
