Massasoit CC Men’s Soccer Cruises Past MassBay CC, 11-0

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- Emerson Barros (Brockton, Mass.) netted the Warriors' first two goals and finished with a hat trick as the Massasoit Community College men's soccer team cruised to an 11-0 victory vs. MassBay Community College on Monday afternoon.

Barros, a transfer from Monroe College, also scored the Warriors first goal of the second half, ending the contest with three goals on four shots.

"Emerson's got speed and is a very talented kid," head coach Rui Estrela said. "He should have had two (goals) the last time we played, so he got those goals early and out of the way today and hopefully that is a good sign of what's to come from him."

Massasoit (1-0-1) saw seven different players find the back of the net, including two goals each from John Corr (Brockton, Mass.) and Joel Lobo (Brockton, Mass.) who both came off the bench in the victory.

"We have a really strong bench and I think we can bring guys off the bench and still be just as strong as the starting 11, which is great thing to have," Estrela said. "These kids went out there and played hard.  We don't want to hold them back and we have to be ready for the next day and the next game."

In total the Warriors peppered the MassBay (0-1-0) net for 30 shots, 15 in each half in their first home match of the season.

In his first career start, goalie Andre Reis (Fall River, Mass.) recorded the shutout, making five saves on 10 total shots by the Buccaneers. In addition, the freshman keeper recorded an assist, setting up Lobo for a breakaway goal on a punt to close out the first half with the Warriors up 6-0.

Massasoit returns the pitch on Wednesday, with road trip to CCRI. Match time is set for 4 p.m.
