Early Offense Ignites Men’s Soccer Past Holyoke CC, 3-1

HOLYOKE, Mass. ---- An early goal by Emerson Barros (Brockton, Mass.) helped ignite the Massasoit Community College men's soccer team to a 3-1 victory vs. Holyoke CC on Wednesday afternoon.

Massasoit (5-2-2) earned its third-straight victory, as Barros found the back of the net in the seventh minute of action for his Region XXI-best sixth goal of the season.

Later in the first half, Joao Cardoso (Brockton, Mass.) added to the Warriors' lead, tallying his fourth goal on the year in the game's 27th minute.

"We played really well for the first 30 minutes," assistant coach Manny Pimentel said. "We moved the ball well from side to side and played first-touch soccer."

Pimentel served as the acting head coach in the absence of Rui Estrela, who will be back on the sidelines for Massasoit's next game, slated for Saturday against Bryant & Stratton at 2 p.m. The match will be played at the Taunton Eagles Field in Taunton, Mass.

Massasoit led 2-0 at half, thanks in large part to the goalkeeping of Andre Reis (Fall River, Mass.).

"Andre had a great game in goal of us. He really kept us in the match and made a lot of really big saves," Pimentel said.

After HCC cut Massasoit's lead in half, 2-1, defender Adilson Darosa (Quincy, Mass.) netted his first goal as a Warrior to round out the scoring on the afternoon.
