Early Goal Sinks Men’s Soccer At Essex County CC, 1-0

NEWARK, N.J. ---- The Massasoit Community College men's soccer fought tooth and nail with Essex County CC, but an early goal proved to be the difference as the Warriors lost, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon.

Massasoit (6-4-2) returns to the pitch on Sunday against Burlington CC in the second game of the Essex County Tournament.

"We came out flat in the first five minutes and unfortunately gave up a quick goal to a very good team," head coach Rui Estrela said. "After that we played well and controlled most of the game, we just couldn't get a goal to tie it up."

The lone goal of the contest came in the third minute of action.

The Warriors had opportunities offensively, but were unable to take advantage as the early 1-0 lead would hold through the entirety of the match.

Andre Reis started in goal for the Warriors, and with the help of his defense were able to limit Essex County's opportunities after the game's first five minutes of action.

"I thought we really took it to (Essex) at the end of both halves, but we just couldn't finish tonight," Estrela said.
