Golf Competes In Opening Match Of 2016

FRANKLIN, Mass. ---- Freshman Cam Mariani (Abington) finished tied for 10th to highlight the Massasoit golf team's first match of the 2016 campaign, played at the New England Country Club.

Mariani shot a 90 in his first collegiate match, tying with Ryan Tinney of Dean College for 10th overall.

Next up for the Warriors was fellow freshman Simon El Chami (Brockton) who shot a 92 on the day, good for a tie of 12th place.

Mike Barry (Abington) rounded out Massasoit's golfers with a 124.

"It was good to get out on the course and compete," head coach Mike Croatti said. "Now that we got the first match jitters out of the way, I expect us to improve moving forward."

The match medalist honor went to Josh Macera of CCRI who carded a low score of 79 (+7). In addition, CCRI posted the lowest team score, as four golfers combined to shoot a 333. Massasoit only has three golfers on the roster and is ineligible for team scoring.

A total of 22 golfers took part in the match on Tuesday.
