Cappadona Shoots 89 To Close Out Nationals

CHAUTAUQUA, N.Y. ---- On the fourth and final round of the NJCAA Division III Golf National Championship, Massasoit's Mike Cappadona (Foxboro) shot an 89 (+17) to close out tournament action on Friday.

"It was great for Capps (Cappadona) to represent Massasoit here at Nationals and I was glad to go along for the ride," first-year head coach Chris Ballerini said. "He had his highs and lows over the four days but ended the tournament with some really solid golf."

Cappadona, who became the first-ever Massasoit golfer to compete at the NJCAA Nationals, totaled a four-day score of 358 (93+85+91+89=358) to finish tied for 86th overall.

For the season, the Foxboro native showcased strong and consistent play on the course, highlighted by his fourth place national qualifying finish at the two-day Region XXI Tournament at the New England Country Club.

Cappadona totaled eight rounds for the season, as he doubled up his official round total by competing in this year's National Tournament. He averaged an 85.5 at the links, with a season-low of 80 back on April 14th.

Taylor Suggs of Cincinnati State claimed in the individual championship, posting a tournament-low score of 3-under-par. Suggs was the only golfer to finish under par for the tournament. In addition, Suggs led his team to the team National Championship as well.

Amongst Region XXI qualifiers, Austin McCreary of Dean College shot the lowest four-day score, to place 35th overall. As a team, CCRI took eighth place.
