BELLINGHAM, Mass. ---- Mike Cappadona (Foxboro) carded a team-low 81 (+9) to highlight the Massasoit CC men's golf team on the first day of the Region XXI Championship held at the New England Country Club.

Cappadona finished tied for fifth, finishing one shot off his season-low score of 80, which he shot at the New England Country Club back on April 14. The freshman tied Chris Lynch of MassBay CC for fifth place in the 21 student-athlete field.

"Capps (Mike Cappadona) is definitely in contention for Nationals for us," head coach Chris Ballerini said. "He has posted solid scores both times we have played here this season, so hopefully that carries over to tomorrow."

Austin McCreary of Dean College recorded the low score of the day, firing a 74, followed by three CCRI players: Steve Letterle (77), Alex Greenwood (77) and John Macera (80).

Massasoit's Mike Thibeault (Halifax) currently sits in 13th place, posting a 90 (+18) on the afternoon. Cameron Cox (Kingston) and Mike Barry (Abington) recorded scores of 100 and 120 to round the Warriors on day one.

The Warriors return to the links to close out regional play on Wednesday morning.
