MCCAC State Tournament Seedings Announced

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- The 2017-18 Massachusetts Community College Athletic Conference (MCCAC) Tournament seedings have been announced with Massasoit earning the No. 2 seed in both the men's and women's tournaments. The MCCAC Tournament will be hosted by Springfield Tech in Springfield, Mass., this weekend.

WBB Preview

The Warriors closed out the regular season with an upset win over CCRI, 56-49, in which twin sisters  from Brockton Sienna Johnson and Sierra Johnson combined for 44 points in their final home game.

Massasoit (7-12, 6-6 R21) has been led offensively by a trio of sophomores that averages double figures, in Sierra (18.5), Sienna (12.1) and Holbrook's Courtney Foley (12.1).

In 19 games, the Warriors are averaging 64.1 points, 39.9 rebounds and 10.8 assists per game. Defensively, Massasoit is allowing only 56.6 points per contest and has held the opposition under 50 points on five occasions.

The Green and White will face tournament host Springfield Tech (8-11, 5-7 R21), as the two squads will square off for the third time in 2017-18. The Rams are limping into postseason play, posting just a 1-6 record during the second semester.

STCC is led by do-it-all point guard Jamie Staples. The sophomore leads the team in points (19.3) and assists (5.6) per game and is shooting a region-best 55.4 percent from the floor.

In the previous two meetings, each squad won on the opponent's home court. STCC captured the first matchup, 62-57 on Nov. 18, before the Warriors picked up a 82-57 victory on Jan. 27.

The winner will face the winner of Roxbury and Bunker Hill in the MCCAC Finals on Sunday at 12 PM.

MBB Preview

The Massasoit men's hoop team has produced a stellar 2017-18 season, boasting an overall record of 18-5 and will face Bunker Hill (18-10, 17-6) in the MCCAC Semifinals.

The Warriors have built their success on defense, ranking first in Region 21 in points per game allowed (66.8), opponent's field goal (37.7) and 3-point (29.1) percentages and are +11.3 in rebounding margin per game for the season.

Scoring wise, the Warriors net 76.6 per game as four starters average double figures. Rael Handy of Easton leads the charge, scoring 18.6 a contest, followed by Mark Georges (15.9), Mark Munroe (12.1) and Rollsky Edouard (12.0). Munroe ranks third in the region in rebounds per game (11.2) and field goal percentage (59.2).

Saturday's meeting will mark the third between the Warriors and Bulldogs, with each team winning their home game in the season series. BHCC started the year 11-2, but faltered down the stretch going just 7-8 to go close out the regular season.

The Bulldogs average 77.6 points per game led by guard Jamaurie Coakley's 17.6ppg.

Bunker Hill won the first meeting 65-63 prior to Massasoit returning the favor with a 69-60 victory in Brockton.
