BROCKTON, Mass. ---- The Massasoit men's basketball team overcame a double-digit second half deficit to pull within a single possession, but fell short against the visiting Bristol Bayhawks, 75-67, on Thursday night.

Trailing by double figures for most of the second half, it looked as though the visiting Bayhawks would cruise to victory. However, a Colin Campbell (Holbrook) 3-pointer and pair of free throws from Leland Jackson (Atlanta) pulled Massasoit (3-4) within a basket, 62-59, with 4:58 left.

Despite the comeback and hard play in the closing minutes, the Warriors would get no closer as Bristol made its free throws down the stretch. The Bayhawks went 17 of 21 (81 percent) from the line for the night.

The Bayhawks also shot well from the field, making 28 of 51 shots (54.9 percent), including a perfect 8-for-8 from leading scorer Jerrell Gomes (24 points).

Campbell topped Massasoit with 15 points, followed by Jackson who scored all 14 of his points in the second half.

Myles Dias (Carver) added 13 points, including a pair of 3s, and Jashawn Houston (Randolph) chipped in with 11.

Bristol led 36-31 at the half.

Massasoit heads to Quinsigamond CC on Saturday for a 2 p.m. tip.
