Massasoit's Green Sinks Game Winner Vs. STCC

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- The trend of close games continued for the Massasoit men's basketball team as the Warriors earned a 70-69 victory against Springfield Tech CC on Saturday afternoon.

Chris Green (Taunton/Bridgton Academy) buried a mid-range jumper with just over 20 seconds to play to put the Warriors (12-9) up one, which proved to be the difference in the game. STCC had a chance to take the lead, but could not convert.

Colin Campbell (Holbrook) was fouled with 5.8 seconds remaining with the Warriors clinging to the one-point advantage. Campbell went to the line for a 1-and-1 opportunity, but missed his free throw attempt. The Massasoit defense swarmed the STCC ball handler and Campbell punched the ball loose as time expired giving the Warriors the victory.

Out of Massasoit's last seven victories, five have been decided by three points or less with another game going to overtime.

Along with his game-winning bucket, Green finished with a team-best 17 points, including a trio of 3-pointers. He added six assists. Antonio Ferreira (Stoughton) notched 15 points, four rebounds and four assists, while Anthony Conway (Boston/Walpole HS) added nine points and eight rebounds.

The Warriors trailed at halftime, 40-36, but started the second half on an 8-0 run. The game was close through its entirety as neither team would lead by more than 10 points.

In the first half, Massasoit received a boost off the bench from Moses Lynn (Quincy). The big man scored eight in the opening stanza, and finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds in the win.

Massasoit returns to the court on Monday, facing off against Northern Essex CC at 6 p.m. in Brockton.
