Team Effort Leads Massasoit By NHTI, 95-81

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- Anthony Rivers (Boston/John O'Bryant Vocational) scored 26 points and Chris Green (Taunton/Bridgton Academy) added 25 as the Massasoit Community College men's basketball team used a total team effort to best NHTI, 95-81, on Thursday night.

Massasoit has now won three straight games to improve to 8-7 on the season.

Rivers produced a strong all-around game, adding seven rebounds, seven assists and three steals to his stat line. Green added six assists, working primarily as the point guard for the Warriors.

Things started off choppy for the Warriors, as NHTI held an early 10-4 lead. Massasoit would switch up the lineup and explode by use of a pressing defense and fast break offense to go on a 27-7 run and hold a commanding 31-17 lead in the first half.  The big run was jump started by back-to-back 3s by Rivers and Green.

Massasoit led 45-31 at the break.

The home squad's advantage would expand to as much as 23 in the second half -- 65-42 -- as the Warriors would eventually hold on for the 95-81 victory.

Antonio Ferreira (Stoughton) produced a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Adusi Kusi (Quincy) chipped in with 13 points, including four 3-pointers and Colin Campbell (Holbrook) added nine points, three assists and three steals.

One of the most impressive stat lines came from Anthony Conway (Boston/Walpole HS). The forward came off the bench and grabbed 10 rebounds had five steals and five assists without scoring a point for the Warriors.

Massasoit totaled 16 steals on the night and only committed nine turnovers.

NHTI was led by Demetrius Rouse who finished with a game-high 34 points.

The Warriors are off until Saturday, when they head to Quinsigamond CC. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
