Men's Basketball Falls Short To UCAP, 81-79

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- The Massasoit CC men's basketball team overcame a 15-point halftime deficit and eventually take the lead, but University of Connecticut at Avery Point would escape with a 81-79 victory on Wednesday night at the Pete Asiaf Fieldhouse.

Massasoit (4-5) made a vigorous comeback in the second half, putting up 54 points in the second stanza.

After halftime, Adusei Kusi (Quincy), who was competing in his first game of the season for the Warriors, scored 27 of his game-high 30 points, featuring seven 3-pointers. Kusi finished 8-of-12 from downtown on the night to go along with five rebounds and three assists.

Equally as impressive in the second half was Antonio Ferreira (Stoughton/Stoughton HS) who poured in 20 of his 26 points after halftime. Ferreira added seven rebounds to his stat line.

Chris Green (Taunton/Taunton HS) chipped in with 11 points, while Colin Campbell (Holbrook/Holbrook HS) added eight points and 10 boards in the loss.

Trailing 79-76, Ferreria converted an old fashion three-point-play with 18 seconds left to tie up the game at 79-all. Unfortunately for the Warriors, Keith Porter made a bucket with three seconds left for what proved to be the game winner.

Porter finished with 26 points for the Pointers. Kevin Pape added 16, all coming in the first half.

The two teams combined to make 24 3-pointers on the night, 14 from Massasoit and 10 from UCAP.

Massasoit returns to the hardwood on Saturday with a road contest at Holyoke CC. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
