Baseball Shuts Out Holyoke, 11-0

HOLYOKE, Mass. ---- Massasoit received six strong innings from Nick Steele (Dartmouth) and fellow freshman Jonathan O'Donnell (Hull) launched his first collegiate home run as the Warrior baseball team defeated Holyoke CC, 11-0 on Thursday afternoon.

The win ups Massasoit's record to 4-8 and snaps a four-game skid, while Holyoke drops to 2-5 on the season.

Steele, a freshman, allowed only two hits in his six frames of work, fanning six as the righty improved his record to 2-1. Tyler Horton (New Bedford) pitched a scoreless seventh to secure the shutout.

The Warriors finished with 14 hits on the day, five players recording multi-hit efforts at the dish.

O'Donnell went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, a double, homer and four RBI to lead the Warrior attack. Preston Rankin (Oak Harbor, Washington) and Luis Ramirez (Dedham) each roped two hits and knocked in two runs, while Luke Lewando (Brockton) and Aidan O'Neill (Halifax) added two hits apiece. John Tinker (Weymouth) also knocked in two for the winners.

Holyoke escaped jams in the second and third innings before the Warriors broke through in the fourth. With one out, the Warriors roped four straight hits, three of which were doubles, featuring a two-run two-bagger from Rankin, to score three times.

From there, Massasoit scored multiple runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to cruise to the 11-0 victory.

Massasoit hosts divisional foe Quinsigamond for a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 12 PM.
