Baseball Bests MassBay, 17-3

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- The Massasoit baseball team defeated MassBay CC, 17-3, in a five-inning affair on Thursday afternoon.

The win improves the Warriors to 7-10 overall on the season and 5-2 in league play.

The offense for Massasoit finished with 13 hits, seven going for extra bases, led by a 3-for-3 day at the plate from freshman Ricky Sherlock. The Whitman native ripped three doubles and knocked in three.

Sophomore Dylan Ashburn (Norton) scored three times and went 2-for-3 and Tom Merrick (Brockton) ripped a double and triple and knocked in two. In addition, Kyle Holmberg (Middleboro) hit his first career homer, while also scoring three times and knocking in three and Luis Ramirez (Dedham) went 2-for-4 with three RBI in the victory.

All the offense was more than enough run support for righty Kasey Kirby (Dedham). The freshman went all five frames, yielding three runs, only one earned off four hits. Kirby fanned a career-high 10 and walked four to earn his first win of the season.

The Warriors return to the diamond on Saturday to face Bunker Hill in a doubleheader starting at 12 PM.
