HAVERHILL, Mass. ---- The first inning set the stage on Sunday afternoon and it unfortunately did not go Massasoit's way as the Warriors fell to Northern Essex, 8-0, in the Region 21 Baseball Tournament at Trinity Stadium.

With the victory, the Knights advance to the NJCAA College World Series held in Kingston, N.C., by claiming the best-of-three series with the Warriors (17-19).

After the Warriors went down in order in the top of the first, the Knights scored three unearned runs in their first at bat. Leadoff hitter Jordan Roper started the game with a routine ground ball, but an errant throw allowed the speedster to race all the way around the bases for the first run against Warrior starter Zack Reid (Dighton).

Following the tough first frame, Reid (3-6), pitched well, striking four and walking four in the loss. Liam Richmond (Hingham) and Mike Nader (Hollywood, Fla.) both pitched in relief as well.

The Massasoit lineup could not get anything going against NECC starter Evan Glew (8-0). The lefty fired eight shutout innings for the Knights, allowing only three hits with four strikeouts.

Offensively, Dylan Ashburn (Norton) went 2-for-4 with a double for the Warriors.
