BROCKTON, Mass. ---- Starting pitchers Jake Stearns (Plymouth) and Zack Reid (Dighton) each fired shutouts as the Massasoit baseball team swept Holyoke CC, by scores of 3-0 and 10-0 on Saturday at Colombo Field.
The pair of victories ups Massasoit's record to 17-16 overall and is set to conclude the regular season on Sunday with a single game at Quinsigamond CC.
Game 1: Massasoit 3, Holyoke 0 (7 innings)
Massasoit scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth and that was all ace left-hander Jake Stearns would need a 3-0 victory in game one.
Stearns was masterful, yet again, not allowing a run in seven innings of work. The sophomore scattered seven hits to go along with six strikeouts to improve his record to 6-1 on the season.
The lone threat against Stearns came in the third, when the visiting Cougars loaded the bases with two outs. But, the lefty induced a pop up to escape the jam.
Tyler Morini (Plymouth) went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with a run scored. Kevin Huscher (Middleboro) and Alex Carey (East Bridgewater) each went 2-for-3 in the victory.
Huscher spearheaded the three-run fourth frame, leading off with a single. Following a strikeout, Massasoit strung together three consecutive singles, featuring RBI base knocks from Carey and Justin Martinho (Dighton) to account for the big inning.
Game 2: Massasoit 10, Holyoke 0 (5 innings)
Zack Reid was lights out in game two against the Couagars, slinging a one-hitter and the Warrior offense provided more than enough run support, winning 10-0 in five innings to sweep the twin bill.
