Baseball Splits At Bridgton Academy On Saturday

BRIDGTON, Maine ---- Bryan Dwyer (Abington) produced a big day at the plate and on the mound as the Massasoit baseball team split a doubleheader at Bridgton Academy, falling 10-1 before winning 3-2.

It was a memorable day for Dwyer, who recorded a couple of firsts on Saturday. The freshman clubbed his first collegiate homer and earned his first win on the mound for the Warriors.

Game 1: Bridgton Academy 10, Massasoit 1
Bridgton scored at least one run in each of the four innings, including a six-run third to claim game one of the twinbill against the visiting Warriors.

Dwyer rocketed a solo blast in the second inning, the first of his career at Massasoit, and fellow freshman Kevin Jaynes (Brockton) went 2-for-3 in the loss.

Game 2: Massasoit 3, Bridgton 2
In only  his third appearance on the mound all season, Dwyer went the distance, firing a complete game six-hitter as Massasoit won 3-2.

Dwyer (1-0) fanned six and walked only one to earn the victory on the mound.

Knotted 2-2 through four innings, Evan McSherry (Halifax) and Kevin Huscher (Middleboro) set the table in the fifth, starting the frame with back-to-back hits, featuring a double by Huscher.

Following an out, cleanup hitter Dwyer put the ball in play, allowing McSherry to score on the groundout with what proved to be the game-winning run. Next up was Alex Carey (East Bridgewater), who knocked in an insurance run with a two-out RBI single. Carey finished the game 2-for-3.
