CHARLESTOWN, Mass. ---- Freshman Jake Stearns (Plymouth) faced one over the minimum as the Massasoit CC baseball team picked up a critical 10-0 victory in six innings on Tuesday.

Stearns, who earned his first win of the season, allowed only one hit, a bloop single with two outs in the fourth. The single to center was the only blemish on his pitching line, as the southpaw fanned 10 and did not walk a batter.

For the game, Stearns tallied at least one strikeout in all six innings of work, and struck out the side in the second. Of his 10 punch-outs, eight were swinging, and he fanned five in a row at one point from the second through the third innings of action.

"Stearns was dominant today," head coach Tom Frizzell said. "He did not walk a batter and that really is the name of the game. We played solid defense behind him and our offense drove in runs. We also were patient at the plate drawing seven walks against the Bunker Hill pitchers."

The Massasoit offense provided Stearns with plenty of run support posting its most runs (10) in a league game this season. The Warriors scored at least one run in five of six innings of action, featuring three runs in the second and fourth frames.

Al Carey (East Bridgewater) continued to swing a hot bat, posting a 3-for-4 day at the top of the lineup. Justin Martinho (Dighton) went 2-for-3 with two RBI and Joe Commesso (Bourne) added two hits, two RBI and scored three runs.

Massasoit returns to the diamond on Thursday, hosting Northern Essex at 3:30 p.m.
