Associate Athletics Director Roly Landers Retires After 30 Years at Massasoit

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- Associate Athletics Director Paula "Roly" Landers officially retired after 30 years of employment at Massasoit Community College.

Landers came to Massasoit in 1986-87, working as a counselor in the Latch program in the Advisement and Counseling Center for three years, followed by three years as Freshman Seminar Coordinator. In 1993, she made the transition into the Athletics Department where she has worked for the last 24 years.

"Roly will be truly missed in our department. She has not only been a wonderful part of our team in athletics, but a great person. She put the students first and has worked tirelessly to help them stay on track academically," Athletics Director Julie Mulvey said.

Most recently, Landers has worked with the student-athletes as the Athletics Department Academic Coordinator and Compliance Officer under her official title as Associate Athletics Director. She assisted Athletic Director Julie Mulvey in making sure Massasoit followed all rules and regulations put forth by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

"Roly's job was not always the easiest or most rewarding. She would have to track down students about having certain paperwork in or check in why they were not doing well in a class. But she always got the job done and did it with a smile on her face," Mulvey said.

In addition, Landers works with Massasoit professors to make sure the student-athletes are not only staying eligible but making progress towards their degrees.

Landers also served as the Pool Operator where she would oversee the Massasoit swimming pool in the Peter Asiaf Field House. She supervised all lifeguards and maintained the pool on a day-to-day basis.

She will retire to her home in Plymouth, Mass., with her husband Steve. The couple has two grown children, Mike and Jamie, and two grandchildren.
